Listings of the Silent Records catalog by label and sub-labels. Flask, Furnace and Sulphur Records came about when Silent wanted to release material that (arguably) didn't fit the "ambient" format.
Silent (Main Label) The main label was the backbone of Silent Records and released the most material. From early
industrial noise and sound sculpture to the later classic chill-room style ambience, the main label helped shape the sound of ambient culture.
Flask is acid, electronica and yes, ambient. This sublabel offers music that is closely related to the main label. Spacey, trippy, and fantastic rave and chill-room style aesthetics.
In early 1991, Silent opened its own in-house distribution company - Pulse Soniq Distribution. There was little outlet for this type of music at that time, and so they began
selling a variety of underground and hard-to-find titles from around the world to independent record stores around the U.S. and beyond. The distribution company was the catalyst
that allowed Silent to grow. A few releases included the Silent catalog number and are included here.
Sulphur includes music that is difficult to classify. A collection of diverse releases. Rock, noise, fusion, experimental electronics, found
sound, and alternative rock.
